Channel Length:

Springfield and Winchester had multiple channel lengths throughout production, most commonly you will hear about Long Channel Vs. Short Channel. This refers to the channel at the end of the stock, this channel comes into direct contact with the barrel. Early differences in channel lengths are not uncommon. Long Channel are generally observed in earlier stocks.
